How S2C & Found My Voice Can Help
At Found My Voice, Inc. we ALWAYS Presume Competence that the individual is capable of learning and right now they are just “stuck” in their own heads with all the same thoughts, feelings, opinions, wants and needs as anybody else with no way to get their “voice” heard. Presuming Competence is the corner stone of our model to help those with no speech, unreliable speech or echoic speech. We use cognitive lessons based on the age of the speller, not based on what you or others believe their IQ may or may not be based on previous testing.
S2C uses a Communication Regulation Parter (CRP) to teach nonspeakers how to use a gross motor action to point to letters on a letter board to spell out their thoughts, desires, feelings, opinions, wants and needs, etc. Think BIG too! College, Grade level academics, High level MATH, song lyrics, music, poetry, books, term papers, daily class work at school, menus, schedules, preferences, life goals, etc. With S2C, individuals do not have to be “stuck” living in their head anymore and they can share their dreams and desires with those most important to them.

We have a tested and duplicatable process for teaching individuals how to access the letter boards. I will be following the I-ASC.org policies, recommendations and best practices with all my clients.
Please do not ask me to skip ahead to the keyboard - I will not do it. We need to maintain the fidelity of the model that we know works, as this is a best practice for all practitioners to follow, not just my preference. My goal as a CRP is to teach you with a new way of communicating through a letter board. I will help keep your body regulated. I will help keep you focused. I will help get you out of motor loops and I will help you communicate with those closest to you in your life. Once we get you on the letter boards, I will help train other individuals in your life how to be a CRP too! |
Is it always pretty and flawless, no, but THAT IS OK. It is ok for you to be whomever you are at Found My Voice, Inc. You are safe and no judgments will be made about you or towards you.
Each nonspeaker learns the process in their own time and whatever that time frame works best for them. I’ve worked with clients that got the process very quickly and others (usually young kids) took much longer. There is no schedule for a student to keep. We work with you and for you!

General Information About Our S2C Sessions
S2C is not AGAINST any other forms of communication out there in the world today! Please feel free to bring your AAC devices or visuals to our office when we meet and we can discuss what is and isn’t working for your family. You do not need to hide that you are using or trying to use other forms of communication. Not all communication modalities will be effective for all nonspeakers. It is AMAZING that we have so many choices available to us today!
Nonspeakers voices to BE HEARD from their own point of view! Nonspeakers deserve to be heard and listened to just like anyone else in the world. Communication is a HUMAN RIGHT and we want to help those who currently do not have access to communication an opportunity to learn like anyone else.
All sessions will be video recorded with parent approval.
Speaking is a fine motor skill and many individuals have Apraxia which does not allow them to speak at all or clearly. Apraxia is a mind-body disconnect and S2C helps individuals that are nonspeaking, unreliable speaking or echoic speaking to have their voice heard through the practice of spelling.

Groups
- Group S2C sessions are a lot of fun and we have a chance to interact with others and make new connections. Some may attend sessions via Zoom while others will be in person. This gives everyone an opportunity to meet new people and learn new things in a shared dynamic learning environment.
- This also gives spellers the opportunity to meet with other spellers out of our geographic area. There are literally spellers all over the world! Maybe we Zoom with another country and they teach us interesting facts about their country and we reciprocate with how we do things in the U.S. Sometimes we even have regional differences, so we could speak with spellers in New York or Seattle or San Diego and learn more about where they live too. Other times it may just be a topic that you are interested in such as traveling to National Parks within the U.S., cooking lessons, a book review, etc…The possibilities are endless!
- Group S2C sessions will typically be in a series with pre-determined topics and lessons meeting once a week for a set number of weeks. You will be able to decide if you want a package of all the sessions in a series (at a discount) or just specific sessions.

I-ASC is the original Spelling based organization that supports world wide advocacy of Spelling as a means of communication. Elizabeth Vosseller is the founder of I-ASC and she is a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) at Growing Kids Therapy Center in VA that learned over the years that spelling is a valid way to improve the lives of nonspeakers. The method is called Spelling to Communicate or S2C for short. Paulette was able to train with her in person and on-line during her studies. Refunds will not be issued for Special Events that you have signed up and pre-paid for with less than 24 hour notice as well.
